Did you apply for this full-time job?

You know the one I’m talking about—the holiday manager role that comes with endless to-do lists, gift shopping marathons and party planning galore.

And I’m talking about a full-time job on top of your already full-time job of life. I don’t recall a paycheque coming with this holiday manager position either. In fact, I don’t even recall applying for or accepting the position, yet here we are, managing all the magic.

And honestly? I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

I love all the holiday cheering, the spirit of giving, the copious amounts of gold sprinkles, and the strong mix of magic.

It’s my favorite of all favorites, really.

But it sure is a heck of a lot of extra—on an already extra-extra amount of life. My nephew, for example, is already on holiday party number six—and we’re only in the first week of December!

What the?!

So, how do we hit the “life pause” button, slow down, and be present in the season without drowning in the overwhelm of sticky-note-covered desks and unfinished to-do lists?

Here’s some secret sauce for living lively during the holidays:

1. Move Your Body, Daily.

Don’t skip your “me-time.” Whether it’s yoga, pickleball, a brisk walk, running, hiking, or just dancing around your kitchen to your top Spotify playlist of 2024, keep moving in a way that brings you joy.

Why?

Because movement gives you energy, clarity, and a much-needed break from the mental noise. Reflect on how you feel after that hour of “you-time.” Notice how it fuels your ability to tackle that sticky-note list with more zest.

Pro Tip: When it gets tough, visualize how good you’ll feel afterward. Become addicted to that feeling.

Think about:

  • How much more zest you have to tackle your day.
  • How much more get-up-and-go you have to grab that to-do list.
  • How much clearer everything looks.

That’s the motivation you need to lace up those sneakers or roll out that yoga mat. Yes, it will be hard—but it’s worth it.

2. Focus on the Moment, Not the List.

It’s easy to get caught up in what’s next. Pause. Breathe. Look around. Whether you’re laughing at a holiday party, sharing a quiet cup of holiday-blend coffee with a friend, or marveling at the twinkling lights—be present.

The “to-dos” will still be there tomorrow, but this moment won’t.

3. Embrace the Short-Term Gig.

This holiday “job” is a limited-time offer, and the payoff isn’t in dollars—it’s in the magic we get to create, the memories we make, and the love we share. Keep that in mind when things feel overwhelming.

You’ve got this.

Keep moving, stay present, and let the season fill your heart instead of your stress bucket. 💚
