| Hi Fun Friend, I was teaching a workshop last week to businesses on how to incorporate fun into their workplaces â and right into the work itself â to improve staff retention, creativity, and team performance. There were many millennial-aged team leaders in the room. And when they shared their typical workday or meeting structures, I felt like I had time-travelled back to 2005. As in⌠20 years ago. A lot of what I was hearing told me something important: nothing much has changed. Which led me to believe these leaders were simply doing what they were taught. Carrying forward old beliefs like⌠If youâre having fun, you wonât look professional. Work is a grind â it shouldnât be fun. If youâre having fun at work, youâre goofing off and not producing. Oh yes⌠I took that golden opportunity to crack open and reshape a few beliefs about fun in the workplace in the room. And I tell you â leaders of all generations lit up. The energy shifted. Possibilities opened. New ways of thinking about energizing teams came alive. And it got me thinking⌠How many old beliefs are getting in the way of you having more fun in our lives â and at work? How many are quietly squashing your fire, your light, your creative energy, your get-up-and-go? And hereâs the tricky part⌠How do you even become aware of old beliefs when they feel so true? Well, old beliefs hide in discomfort. (Sorry old beliefs⌠Iâm busting you.) đ Here are 3 ways to spot them: 1ď¸âŁ You have an emotional reaction â defensiveness, guilt, shame. 2ď¸âŁ You use words like âshould.â 3ď¸âŁ The voice in your head sounds older â like a parent, teacher, or former boss. You donât âget ridâ of old beliefs. You outgrow them. You update them. You replace them with lived evidence. Beliefs arenât deleted. Theyâre overwritten. If you suspect a few old beliefs are kicking around and bringing you down, try this: Challenge them with curiosity. Ask: Is this always true? Who benefits from me believing this? What would happen if the opposite were true? Old beliefs feel like facts because they go unquestioned. Questioning opens possibility. Old beliefs arenât sacred. Theyâre just familiar. And familiar is not the same as true. If a belief is costing you energy, connection, or joy â it deserves to be questioned. As always, fun, laughter, and play are like your loyal friends. Theyâve never left. Theyâre right there waiting for you. Yours in fun spirit, Treena x đ Ps. If you personally or your organization need help re-igniting your zest, energy or performance book me a call to see how I can help. *************************************************************************** RECENTLY ON THE FINDING FUN EXPERIMENT PODCAST: In this episode, discover how stillness softens the guilt voice â and helps you reconnect to yourself again. If your attention is constantly on what you havenât done, where youâre falling short, or who you might disappoint⌠guilt gets louder â and fun, connection, and stillness get quieter. In a culture that Dr. Jody Carrington calls a loneliness epidemic, weâre overworking, over giving, and under-refueling. LISTEN HERE  |
